Wandering and Wondering

De Colores

From 2012 to 2019, I made colorful resin pieces. They were part of a semi-production line. Always one-of a kind and never easy to replicate the pieces were popular and I loved mixing pigments into resin, cutting and shaping each resin stone, and combining them with brass or silver. There wasn’t a single piece I did not consider keeping or gifting to a loved one. With time the resin dust began to worry me and as conversations about microplastics became more prevalent, I knew I had to stop sanding plastic with all the tiny resin particles I was putting out into the world. And I stopped to reimagine my practice. While I have done other pieces in these last years my practice is now slow as I try to find a way where I’m conscious of materials and the impact my work can have in the world. The slowdown has lasted longer than I expected. Now 7 years after I stopped selling production work I am back steadily making but from recycled materials. Socks and paper, fabric scraps and cardboard. Finding once again my language.
